The Medical Assistant Certificate of Continuing Study prepares students for a career as a medical assistant, with competency and confidence in the following subjects over 4 weeks of classwork followed by a minimum of a 120-hour internship over 5-6 weeks.
- Administrative procedures (reception, scheduling)
- Anatomy and physiology (basic)
- Clinical procedures and skills
- Communication skills: Communication for medical assistants
- Computer skills: Digital literacy, electronic health records
- CPR certification
- Customer service
- Healthcare law and ethics; HIPAA training
- Math (in medical context)
- Medical terminology
- Pharmacology (basic)
Eligible graduates are able to sit for the National Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam.
Additionally, Rhode Island College provides individual counseling with a case manager and professional development that covers resume and cover letter writing, job searching, and practice interviews.
