GED stands for General Educational Development and is equivalent to a high school diploma. Employers and about 99% of colleges accept a GED certificate in place of a diploma.
Students complete coursework and take tests in four subjects: language arts, math, science, and social studies. Exams may be taken all at once or one at a time. GED testing is available at Westerly Education Center, a Pearson testing site.

After completing coursework, schedule your GED test at the Westerly Education Center Pearson testing center. Select “Schedule Your Test,” click G to display the GED exam, select Westerly Education Center and an available date and time. Easy!
Upon successful completion, students receive a certificate that can be presented to the DMV when obtaining a learner’s permit.

The Westerly Education Center partners with businesses, industry groups, job placement organizations, and colleges to offer training aligned with real career paths and job openings. With 21 rooms, strong partnerships with Rhode Island colleges and universities, and their experienced staff, Westerly Education Center is an ideal training location.
Our programs support workforce development by building skills in areas like leadership, communication, critical thinking, and technical expertise, as well as preparing employees for certifications.
Courses are offered by the University of Rhode Island, Community College of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, and RISD Continuing Education, covering topics from basic computer skills, advanced professional training and art classes.
In Collaboration with Our Anchor Partner, General Dynamics, The Westerly Education Center offers hands-on maritime trades training designed to help students prepare for real careers in shipbuilding and manufacturing, including opportunities with General Dynamics Electric Boat.
