A sheetmetal worker is required to interpret construction drawings with basic mathematic ability. Work assignments will be accomplished by using company drawings, test documents, technical mechanicals, shipyard procedures, and shop machinery. Job tasks include the layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of light gage metalwork which includes air conditioning ductwork, lockers, cabinets, prefabricated bulkheads, doors, furniture, and formica. And, performing joiner work, fabricate nonstructural bulkhead doors, and stainless steel trim.
This is a free course that mixes hands-on education with classroom instruction. Community College of Rhode Island instructors, most of whom have worked at Electric Boat, lead the courses in essential skills. The small class size and frequent interaction with the instructor and teacher’s assistant enable students to have a more personalized experience.
