Drawing for Beginners

Course description

The language of drawing is the most efficient and accessible way to communicate visual ideas. This introductory course helps you develop hand-eye coordination–required for all perceptual drawing–to understand how to look and transcribe the world onto a two-dimensional surface. Through presentations and tutorials, you’ll learn to describe objects through scale, angle and proportion. As your skills and confidence grow, you’ll progress to more complex subjects and begin making thoughtful compositional choices.

NEW: To celebrate the return of in-person courses at Westerly Education Center, RISD|CE is offering a special discount. Save 10% with code WEC9389003 at check-out.

Taught by experienced instructor Michael Peery, this course combines presentations, demos, and personalized feedback to help students refine their perceptual drawing skills.

This is a non-credit course.

Supplies: Students are responsible for purchasing their own art supplies (estimated under $125). A full supply list will be available 30 days before the first day of class.
